“The Waiting Game,” is the story of ABA (American Basketball Association) players' struggle to seek justice through a tiny nonprofit organization, Dropping Dimes. The documentary, directed by Michael Husain (Ed Johnson-Ott Hoosier Award winner) sheds light on the ABA’s innovative contributions, such as the three-point shot and the slam dunk contest, which have become integral to the sport today. Despite the players' pivotal roles, they were left without promised benefits following the ABA-NBA merger.
Featuring insights from basketball legends like Julius “Dr. J” Erving and broadcaster Bob Costas, “The Waiting Game” which remiered at Heartland Film Festival in 2024, travels to educate the public on the injustice. You can purchase the iconic red, white and blue ball or place a bid on one at a screening.
The next screening is scheduled at West Vigo High School, Wednesday, March 26 followed by Q&A. Doors open at 6:30.
